How can you make local engagement even more visible? Following previous successful local “ bigshoppers ,” opportunities arose beyond the bag itself. The large stuccoed surfaces on the exterior of the store provided a striking backdrop for recognizable images from Zaltbommel. The challenge: to utilize this space in a way that fully reflects the store’s local identity.
Local identity doesn't have to be limited to a BigShopper ad, poster, or other form of communication. The large exterior walls of this store offered a unique opportunity to showcase the local character on a much larger scale.
The recognizable elements of the local Bigshopper were therefore incorporated into the store’s exterior. The result is a striking design in which the store and its surroundings are visibly connected. It’s not your typical store facade, but a look that certainly suits Albert Heijn Zaltbommel.

We started with the area around the supermarket: what makes Zaltbommel distinctive, and what are its residents proud of? We brought these distinctive elements together in a single design. Think of the Martinus Nijhoff Bridge, the Bommelse Bridge, the City Castle, the Water Tower, and other well-known landmarks in the area.
We then looked beyond the original design. Where else could this local identity be brought to life? The available exterior walls turned out to be perfectly suited for this purpose. By extending the same local visual language, a single, recognizable whole emerged between the Bigshopper and the store. Even years later, the exterior still attracts attention.
